Just Build
A Thing.

Stop worrying about whether you know enough, or whether you are qualified.

Josiah Wilson

01

Waiting to feel ready is the stall

Do I know enough? Am I qualified? Those questions feel careful. They are also how a thing stays imaginary. You will not collect enough certainty to be handed permission. People who build were unsure, and then they started.

02

Only consuming wastes the potential

People waste creative potential by only consuming. Another video, another thread, another saved example. It feels like movement. Nothing gets made.

Watching

Easy to mistake for progress. You can explain how a thing gets made and still have never made it.

Making

The work pushes back, and that is when you learn the next piece. A thing in the world beats a better theory of one.

The way to unlock it is to go make something: a page, a tool, a tune, a fix, an object.

03

Start with something you can finish

Don't make the first one your monument. Make it small enough to finish.

  1. Say what it is in one sentence.
  2. Give it an evening, or a weekend.
  3. Finish it in some form you can point to.
  4. Then build the next one.

You will know more once it exists than you know while you are still only thinking about it.
